Abortion Entry

ENTERING AN ABORTION IF:

ANIMAL IS LACTATING: 

1. If the abortion event takes place while the animal is lactating (not dry), record the abortion event under Entries: Fertility Status, individual entry.
2. Type in the cow's number and press <tab> or double click with your mouse on the animal's number.
3. Enter the date the abortion event happened.
4. Find the diagnosis from the pull-down menu that states: Not pregnant, abortion.
5. If the animal was treated at this time, you can enter the treatment information on the bottom part of the screen.
6. Click the save icon (2nd icon from the left hand side) or press F9 on your keyboard to save the abortion event.

ANIMAL IS DRY:

1. If the abortion event occurs while an animal is dry, record the abortion event under Entries: Calving.
2. Type in the cow's number and press <tab> or double click with your mouse on the animal's number.
3. Enter the date of the abortion event.
4. Fill in the sex of the fetus (if necessary you have the option to say Undetermined here).
5. If necessary, fill in sex of the fetus where it says perinatal death (this will indicate the fetus did not survive). This data has to match the sex entered on Step #4.
6. Then enter the size of the fetus, calving ease and special code (if needed).
7. In the comment line state that the cow Aborted.
8. Click the save icon (2nd icon from the left hand side) or press F9 on your keyboard to save the abortion event.

Note: By entering the abortion as a calving the animal's lactation number will increase by 1.
