Reuse Number

REUSING AN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

This program allows you to initialize a new animal record for either a male/bull or female/cow/heifer with an identification number that has been previously used and the animal has been culled.

  1. In your program click Entries, identification
  2. VAMPP defaults to the female entry screen. If you are entering a male animal click male on the right side of the screen
  3. Click the Reuse button (Note that the next available number that has never been used will default in the window)
  4. Select the assigned number from the pull-down menu by typing the number in the box and pressing the <tab> key or highlight the number and double click with your mouse.
  5. Type the barn name of animal (Note: the name may consist of letters, digits, or letters and digits, but must be unique. If only digits, must be the equivalent of the cow number or more than 4 digits long. If the name exceeds 12 digits, the end of the name will appear with ... on reports).
  6. Enter the Lactation # (this is a required field). PLEASE NOTE: If you wish to add a calving date after the animal's record has been entered, the number that is entered here will increase by 1 when the calving date is saved.
  7. Enter in the animal's birthdate (this is a required field), click on ESTIMATED with your mouse if the date may not be 100% correct.
  8. Enter the animal's sire (this is an optional field). If the sire is not in your herd data, please refer to the FAQ page listed as Animal ID - NEW - MALE to add the sire information. You can also the F5 key for quick identification of a new sire.
  9. Enter the animal's dam (this is an optional field). If the animal has been purchased, the dam information will not be available.

  11. Enter the Family Line if available
  12. If you have use herd grouping (refer to FAQ titled Activate Herd Grouping), you can place this animal in the desire group by filing in the Herd Group (this is an optional field).
  13. Registered name (Optional data): enter the unique registered name. (If the animal has been registered with an association, be sure that the name matches their records).
  14. Registration number (Optional data): Enter the unique registration number. (If the animal has been registered with an association, be sure that the registration number matches their records). The registration number may contain up to 13 characters and may consist of digits or letters and digits. (For example: CANF12345678 or CANF1234567A).
  15. Fill in the DHI # if known.
  16. Fill in the Secondary ID number if necessary. This field can be used for the EZE-IR number provided to you from Holstein Canada with the dual tag identification system.
  17. Fill in the Alternate ID number if necessary.
  18. Fill in the NLID # if necessary.
  19. Click the General Information tab. This is where you will fill in the breed, color, purity level %age purbred, if they have been blood typed, the animal's birth status if they have been tested for leucosis and the results of their test. PLEASE NOTE: breed, color and purity level are required IF you wish to register the animal with an association.
  20. Click on the Purchase  tab. If the animal was purchased, this is where you will fill in the specifics of the purchase. Enter the purchase date, reason, price, comment (if necessary), seller, address, location, weight and height.
    Note: weight and height can be entered for all animals, regardless if they were purchased or born into the herd.
  21. Once all the above information has been entered, you can now save the data that has been entered by clicking either the save icon (2nd icon from the left hand side) or by pressing F9 on your keyboard.

    Note: For download of genetic indexes, the registration numbers of all Canadian females (including those numbers beginning with 3 and 4) must begin with CANF.  To default this click File, properties, farm profile. In the Country box Select Canada from the pull-down menu.
